I just welcomed Andrew and Mandy to North Aurora. They are the recipients of the 4,000th visit Welcome Home has made in Batavia and North Aurora, IL. It has taken almost 13 years to reach this milestone.

Here are a few unscientific observations:

People are often surprised when I tell them how many families I’ve visited. I welcome about one-half to two-thirds of all new home owners, so the actual number of homes sold is greater than 4,000.

The majority of newcomers to Batavia and North Aurora moved here from the Chicago area. Since these are “local” moves people have done extensive research when deciding where they want to settle and chose to come here because it is a wonderful place to live. Rarely have I met someone who has been unhappy with their move – in those cases it was usually someone who moved far from where they were raised.

Well over half of all homes have some type of pet; dogs being the most popular.

Most Fermi Lab physicists, who live in Batavia, live on the east side of the river. Is this because they need to be able to get to the facility quickly, or because they like to bike to work?

The water on the west side of the river seems to be harder than on the east side.

There are some very interesting, thought provoking, funny, serious, heartbreaking and heartwarming people who live here, and I love hearing their stories. They make the fabric of our community richer because they moved here.

Welcome Home!
